Mahaffey’s Potential and Foul Trouble

Cincinnati Bearcats aim to overhaul their bench scoring this season with the addition of freshman guard Eric Mahaffey, a high-efficiency scorer from Akron who averaged nearly eight points and shot over 53% from the field. Standing at six-foot-six, Mahaffey also boasts a strong pedigree and was ranked 158th among transfer prospects after earning MAC All-Freshman honors. His standout performances include a 20-point game with minimal misses and 11 double-digit scoring outings. However, his 75 personal fouls last season — including seven games with four or more fouls — raise concerns about his durability against tougher competition. Still, the coaching staff sees him as a key offensive spark off the bench and believes he’ll fit their system well. His development this season will be critical to the Bearcats’ success.
