Maine Weather March 3 Evening - Unseasonably Warm

from The Maine Weather Podcast

Good evening. Maine. I'm DJ Huzz. Winter is throwing one last jab tonight before spring officially takes over. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 4 A.M. Wednesday for southern and central Maine. The snow arrives between 7 and 8 P.M., peaks around 9 to 11, then tapers off before dawn. In the next 24 hours. Down on the coast, from Portland through Downeast, you'll see 2 to 4 inches of wet snow. You might see a brief mix of sleet or freezing rain late, but ice accumulation stays minimal. Lows bottom out around 27 degrees in Portland, 31 Downeast. Head inland and it's all snow. Augusta through Bangor picks up 2 to 4 inches with lows near 25. In the Western Mountains, expect 1 to 3 inches before everything wraps up by 2 A.M. Up in Aroostook, this system barely grazes you. You've just a chance of light snow after 11 P.M. With less than a half inch expected. The low sits at 24 degrees. Tomorrow brings a complete turnaround. Sunshine returns and temperatures climb to 46 degrees in Portland. That's 6 degrees above normal for early March. Augusta and Bangor also hit 46. The mountains reach 38, while The County tops out around 40. Thursday stays quiet before our next system arrives Thursday night. That one brings a wintry mix changing to rain Friday. Then we warm up significantly this weekend. Highs in the low 50s by Sunday and Monday. By the way, on this date in 1971. Portland got walloped with 26 inches of snow. Tonight is considerably tamer. In Sunrise at 6, 16 A.M., sunset at 5:33 P.M. We're gaining nearly 3 minutes of daylight. Watch for that full moon tonight. If the clouds break. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
