Maine Weather March 3 Midday - Unseasonably Warm

from The Maine Weather Podcast

Good afternoon. Maine. I'm DJ Huzz. Folks, winter's got one more trick up its sleeve tonight. A fast mover is sliding through the Gulf of Maine. And it's bringing snow that'll make your evening commute interesting. Snow kicks off along the coast around 7 P.M. and spreads north by 9 P.M. The heaviest punch lands between 8 P.M. and 3 A.M. In the next 24 hours. Where you live matters. Bangor and Downeast take the biggest hit. 2 to 4 inches of fresh snow piling up overnight. Portland sees similar totals, though the coast might flirt with a rain mix late. Drive north into The County and it's a different story. Houlton barely gets a dusting. Maybe an inch. You'll want to slow down for the evening drive. That snow sticks to cold pavement fast. By Wednesday morning it wraps up, but roads stay slushy through the dawn commute. Temps hover near freezing at sunrise. Then comes the plot twist. Wednesday afternoon climbs into the mid 40s. That's 6 degrees above normal for early March. All that fresh snow? Gone by dinnertime. The kind of day where puddles replace snowbanks. Looking ahead. Thursday holds quiet with highs near 40 degrees. Another system sneaks in Thursday night into Friday bringing light snow, especially up north. Saturday gets messy. Wintry mix in the morning flips to rain by afternoon as temps push into the upper 40s. Sunday clears out beautifully with highs cracking 50 degrees. And early next week? We're talking low to mid 50s Monday and Tuesday. Almost feels like spring knocking on the door. Tonight though, winter's still in charge. If you're heading out after work, give yourself extra time and keep that scraper handy. Your windshield's going to need it by morning. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
