She is also a "book doula" passionate about helping women give birth to the books inside them through her six-month mentorship program Thriving Authors Academy. A former John Steinbeck Fellow in Creative Writing, her work has been honored with the Cypress & Pine Short Fiction Award, the international Glass Woman Prize, and four Pushcart Prize nominations.
