Making 'Fight Like a Girl' a term of pride

The Marine Corps is the only U. S. military branch that trains enlisted women separately from men.  Retired Lieutenant Colonel Kate Germano, one-time commander of the Marines' sole battalion training women recruits tells CBS Eye on Veteran's Chas Henry that not allowing women to train alongside men in boot camp reduces trust between the two, and has created an environment of lowered expectations for women.  She says, unchallenged, women recruits don't do as well in boot camp as they could, which Germano says "sets them up to fail" when immediately after boot camp they, alongside men, undertake basic combat skills training.  After Germano adjusted training in ways that significantly improved women recruit's achievement in marksmanship and other skills, she was relieved of command.  Germano wrote about her experience in a book titled Fight Like a Girl.
