Making Financial Crime Pay: A ‘How To’ Guide by a Former Investment Industry Insider (Part 1)

12-1:30pm A former industry insider, Larry Elford, will explore the often overwhelming investment industry. He will explore and clarify for us the types of investment abuses that have worked in combination to effectively cut the retirement savings of the average Canadian by more than half. Elford then continues to make recent events more transparent, travelling up the “economic food chain” to demonstrate how investment dealers and investment regulators work against, rather than for, the best interests of the public. This presentation is intended to provide the general public a brief introduction to what goes on “behind the curtains” of a trillion dollar industry, showing how the illegal is often made legal. Speaker: Larry Elford Larry Elford worked in the investment industry from 1984 to 2004, earning the designations CFP, CIM, FCSI and Associate Portfolio Manager. During this time, he became familiar with many tricks of the trade, which for insiders were often considered standard practice. Believing that exposing this “financial crime” through writing and speaking, Larry hopes to help instigate positive change. He has presented to a federal government standing committee on finance, and to documentaries on CTV and CBC.
