Making Peace With the Past

There comes a moment in almost every “starting over” story where you realize the hardest battle isn’t always the future — sometimes it’s making peace with what already happened. Maybe you said:  “I would never get divorced.”  “I would never stay in a relationship that long.”  “I thought they would always be there.”  “I thought my life would look different by now.” Sometimes the pain comes from someone else’s choices. Sometimes it comes from circumstances beyond your control. And sometimes the hardest part is grieving the version of yourself who thought life would go another way. Making peace with the past does not mean pretending it didn’t hurt. It doesn’t mean calling wrong things right. It means releasing the constant fight with reality so healing can finally begin.
