Making the most of your spiritual gifts 4 - Why we should earnestly desire spiritual gifts - Matthew 10:5-15

from Toronto Alliance Church · host Toronto Alliance Church

We have a lot of desires. In 1 Corinthians, the apostle Paul writes, "Earnestly desire spiritual gifts". Is this desire on our radar? Is this something that we hold in our hearts? How we feel about spiritual gifts can be all over the map. We might not stand in the way but we might not seek them either. Another response is, why bother with what can be the source of such division in the church? Then there are those who really do love the gifts, and desire that they'd be given more. What's interesting is that same passage is written to a church that is experiencing a ton of controversy over them. You'd think that Paul would say "This is a bad idea. Pull back. Let's try a different way forward." Not so! These days we are talking about how to make the most of spiritual gifts. I want to talk about why, though we have already been given spiritual gifts at conversion, we should earnestly desire them - a desire that God means to satisfy.
