En Malditos Libertadores. Historia del subdesarrollo latinoamericano (Madrid, Siglo XXI Editores, 2020), el ex diplomático nicaragüense Augusto Zamora presenta un retrato polémico y por momentos desconcertante de los grandes héroes de las calles, plazas, estatuas y libros de texto latinoamericanos. Con un foco minucioso en la historia de grandes conocidos como Simón Bolívar y Francisco de Miranda, pero también en episodios menos conocidos como la independencia de la efímera República Centroamericana, Zamora engarza un argumento contra lo que describe como una contrarrevolución criolla que destruyó grandes logros sociales alcanzados durante la era imperial española. Zamora es particularmente crítico con la destrucción de sociedades y etnias indígenas durante los periodos de construcción de nuevas repúblicas, con el racismo institucionalizado por las élites desde México hasta Argentina, y su sometimiento sistemático a potencias extranjeras, primero el Reino Unido y luego EEUU. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
