Male (dis?)Empowerment – Incels and the Challenge of Intimacy

How can men wield power and yet feel so disempowered? Why do somany men feel threatened by the idea of women gaining power? This episode is a meditation on the nature of power and how it is healthily and unhealthily expressed. There is a power struggle, both real and perceived, happening in cultures around the world at this stage of human history. It is the struggle of women (and many other marginalized people) asserting their rights and their need for a greater consideration in cultural practice and public policy. Many organizations, such as the Alt Right in the Western world, are using this moment to target young and vulnerable men with sexist and antifeminist rhetoric. They are weaponizing contemporary cultural shift in an attempt to enroll a next generation in their ideologies. It's a confusing time to be a man, and this episode explores the just and unjust use of power as it concerns men and male privilege.
