Man and Wife

In which Geoffrey Delamayn, restless and impatient, wrestles with his conscience and the practical difficulties of delivering a decisive letter to Anne, grappling with the tangled consequences of his designs and his starkly unmoved nature. An encounter with the silent, mysterious cook momentarily unsettles his nerves, but soon his thoughts return to strategy and preparation for the impending foot-race, as he seeks solace in a simple meal.
