Man in RV arrested after 16-hour standoff with police at Burlington County Walmart parking lot

After 16 hours, an overnight barricade situation outside a Lumberton, Burlington County, Walmart ends peacefully. The Lumberton Police Department said around 11 p.m. Monday, a conflict between 38-year-old Blake Reed and another individual escalated to a robbery. When investigators tried to engage with Reed, officials said he entered an RV and refused repeated requests from law enforcement to exit or communicate. Officers received information that Reed may have had a flamethrower or other weapons. Police secured the surrounding area out of an abundance of caution and called New Jersey State Police and the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office for help. A trained crisis negotiator and mental health professionals spoke with Reed for hours, even stretching into Tuesday afternoon. Eventually, the New Jersey State Police TEAMS Unit took Reed into custody peacefully. He was brought to the hospital with minor injuries. Officials said no one else was hurt. Reed is charged with robbery, weapons offenses, and obstruction.
