Man Marking - Episode 14 - Opening Up Cricket (Mark Boyns)

from Man Marking · host manmarkingpodcast

Episode 14: What can Football learn from other sports about Mental Health?  Mark Boyns founded Opening Up Cricket in 2014, in response to his close friend Alex Miller's death. Alex died by suicide in December 2012, at the age of just 23.  Mark and Alex had been friends for a number years, teammates at South Sefton Park Cricket Club in Liverpool, and the feelings of depression that led Alex to suicide, were not unfamiliar to Mark.  Opening Up Cricket was founded with the intent on using Cricket as a vehicle to drive better understanding of Mental Health, and suicide prevention. We spoke to Mark about the difficulties in his life, the founding of Opening Up Cricket, and the differences between Cricket and Football, when it comes to Mental Health.
