Manifesting with Meg: Conversations with Extraordinary People- Episode 26-January with Mike Spatola-Carpe Diem: Dreams Realized Through the Curious Mind   Introducing Teaching Legend Mike Spatola  No better way to start a new decade than with this extraordinary man. When Mike was in high school, he dreamed of being a teacher and a coach.  In college, he left his basketball practices and transcribed drills and plays envisioning the day he’d coach.  The influence of his teachers was transformative.  His college professors sparked his passion for political science and history.  They, with the unceasing love of his family, ignited a career that lasted 41 glorious years, spanning 5 states and 6 schools.   In 1977 Mike was hired by Trinity Preparatory School in Winter Park, Florida.  He spent ten years at Trinity.  He concluded his career and retired in 2018 after spending eleven years at Durham Academy in Durham, North Carolina.  In between he did stints at Lake Howell High School in Florida, Lawrence Academy, a boarding school in Massachusetts, St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School, his alma mater, and Friends Academy, both in New York.     Over the course of his 41 years, Mike has earned several noteworthy recognitions for his teaching and coaching.  He was “Teacher of the Year” at Trinity Prep; awarded a “Faculty Chair in History” and voted “ISL Boys’ Basketball Coach of the Year” while at Lawrence Academy; he was voted Commencement Speaker twice at Friends Academy; received Durham Academy’s prestigious “F. Robertson Hershey Distinguished Faculty Award”; and recently he was inducted into Trinity Preparatory School’s Athletic Hall of Fame.     Mike cites two mottos that served as motivational forces during his career:   Author and historian Henry Adams once said, “A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.”  In 1980, at a turning point in Mike’s career, former legendary UCLA basketball coach John Wooden wrote in a letter, “No spoken word, no oral plea can teach our youth what they should be.  Nor all the books on all the shelves, it’s what the teachers are themselves.”  Coach Wooden closed that letter with, “He answers prayers.” Going into 2020 excited- Join me, won’t you!?!  "Manifesting with Meg: Conversations with Extraordinary People" is a monthly FBLive/podcast taking the listener through the year with empowering conversations from January and Carpe Diem- Seize the Day to December, Awe-inspiring Magic and Miracles.  Join us, get empowered and inspired to make the changes you need to manifest the most amazing life of your dreams!
