This is done so that we may humbly depend upon His strength for our primary boast in lifeI. The proud 'super-apostles' boast in their own knowledge and experiences, while Paul, who has far greater knowledge and experiences, humbly boasts of his weakness (vv.1-6)II. For Christ's sake, a humbling thorn was permitted to pierce Paul's life (vs. 7)III. The Lord told Paul 'no' so that his dependency upon Christ's strength would remain his life's boast here on earth (vv.8-10)
