MARCH 27 - Guard Your Mouth, Feed Your Soul3-Year-Bible Reading: Proverbs 13:3–4; Genesis 42–45//3-Year Bible (Year 1) Devotional Book Available on Amazon//________________________________________________________________________________Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin. The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied. — Proverbs 13:3–4And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life. — Genesis 45:5Then Joseph hurried out, for his compassion grew warm for his brother, and he sought a place to weep. And he entered his chamber and wept there. — Genesis 43:30Words are powerful. They can heal or hurt, encourage or tear down. The story of Joseph and his brothers in Genesis 42–45 is full of strong emotions and important conversations. After being betrayed by his brothers and sold into slavery, Joseph ends up saving them during a famine. He could have gotten revenge, but instead he chose grace. His words and actions showed maturity and a heart shaped by God.In Proverbs 13:3–4, we’re reminded that guarding our words and being diligent in our actions leads to life and blessing. Just like Joseph, we’re faced with moments where we have to decide whether we’ll let our mouths or our hearts lead.________________________________________THINK ABOUT IT1. Your Words Have Weight: Are you guarding your mouth or just saying whatever pops into your head? Proverbs warns that careless words can ruin relationships and even your own life.2. Hard Work Pays Off: Joseph didn’t let bitterness or laziness define him. Even in prison or working for others, he stayed faithful and diligent. What kind of work ethic are you showing at school, home, or church?3. Grace Over Grudges: Joseph had every reason to be angry. But he forgave his brothers, seeing God’s bigger plan. Who do you need to forgive, or show grace to, even if they don’t deserve it?________________________________________BOTTOM LINEChoose your words carefully and live with purpose. Like Joseph, God can use your faithfulness—even in hard times—to bring life to others.________________________________________PRAYERHeavenly Father, help me to be wise with my words and faithful in everything I do. Teach me to forgive like Joseph did, and to trust that You’re working even when life feels unfair. I want my heart, my words, and my actions to reflect You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
