Send us Fan MailWe speak with new out general manager of KPFT, David Baes. We will discuss his background and his vision for KPFT. Baes is considering an improved music-based format. His goal is to not only freshen the station’s sound and make it more consistent, but also expand listener demographics to attract a younger audience that will sustain the station in the decades to come. Plans are underway for a more diverse, progressive playlist not found on other stations. By featuring local artists who are considered “too fringe” for mainstream stations, as well as local news and information geared to Houstonians’ interests, Baes believes KPFT can become true “community radio.”GUEST: David Baes https://www.outsmartmagazine.com/2021/03/grassroots-radio/We speak with Eddie Robinson, the voice of Houston Public Media's Morning Edition coverage for seven straight years. Robinson, who has been with Houston Public Media since 2014, has anchored the station's drive time radio coverage on News 88.7 FM while also co-hosting special TV 8 programming like Houston in Black and White, moderating candidate forums, and most recently, taking part in a one-on-one discussion with Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr. as part of the station's multimedia coverage looking at the history and culture of the Black church in America. The newsman isn't leaving the station.
