March Forth in Obedience

John 18:1-11 contains the betrayal and arrest of Jesus leading to His death, burial, and resurrection. This passage is talking about Jesus' willful submission to "drink the cup" of suffering His Father has given Him. This "cup of suffering" is not like any kind of suffering known to humanity. This is God the Son yielding to the very people He created who would betray (Judas), arrest (religious leaders and soldiers), and abandon (the disciples) Him. John made it clear that Christ, even though He possessed all power and authority, gave Himself to the will of His Father so that He would bring salvation and life to all who believe in His Name (John 20:30-31).
