March: You Gotta Read This!
from You Gotta Try This! · host Katherine Sikma Wadsworth
Welcome back to the YGTT Book Club, You Gotta Read This! I announce my pick on the first Friday of every month. It might be an old favorite or a new find. Grab a copy and we’ll read it together. This month, for Women’s History Month, I’m selecting abook that has been profoundly enlightening to me in that space. It’s called The Making of Biblical Womanhood: How the Subjugation of Women Became Gospel Truth. It’s written by Beth Allison Barr, who is a historian, a professor, and Baptist preacher’s wife. It’s about how the church developed the gendered hierarchy it calls biblical manhood and womanhood. Through historical and scriptural analysis, Barr shows how biblical womanhood isn’t biblical. You can find it and all the podcast recommendations in our Bookshop, which supports independent booksellers. (We get a kickback from all purchases there too.)Let us know what you think about the book! Send us yourthoughts recommendations, and delights to us at [email protected].
