Marcus Beveridge: Queen City Law Immigration Lawyer on ACT's proposed Permanent Residency Visa shake up

ACT's proposal to shake up permanent residency rules has been labelled as a 'big fail' by an immigration lawyer.  The party wants make changes to the existing resident visa, increasing the window when holders can start moving freely in and out of the country from two years to five.  To retain their visa, the holder would need to be physically present for at least 730 days within any rolling five year period.  But Queen City Law's Marcus Beveridge told Mike Hosking there's no need for this at all – the current system has enough flexibility and has worked well over the last 30 years.  He also believes it would torpedo the Golden Visa, as a big part of it is the ability to come ang go as you please.  Beveridge says the changes would tie people down here, describing it as the "kiss of death".  LISTEN ABOVE  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
