MARCUS DELOACH as Senator Joseph McCarthy
from Seattle Opera Podcasts Hosted by Seattle Opera
Baritone Marcus Deloach returns to Seattle Opera and to the roles he created in the 2016 world premiere of FELLOW TRAVELERS: Senator Joseph McCarthy, Estonian Frank, and the Interrogator Fred Traband. At the top of Act 2, McCarthy explodes with fury at the suggestion that he sacrifice his right-hand man Roy Cohn to settle a dispute with the army. MCCARTHY: Roy’s not going anywhere! Believe it or not, I’ve got some friends in the press. Men like George Sokolsky, Jews on our side, Jews who actually know what a Communist is. They’re not gonna like anyone going after Roy. Go after Roy and they’ll go after you. I’ll make sure they do. Everyone’s money comes from somewhere, Senator. Even yours. They’ve got files on us? Tell ‘em we’ve got files on them too. (He drinks up.) Marcus Deloach as McCarthy, with the orchestra of Seattle Opera conducted by Steven Osgood. Photo by Photo by David Jaewon Oh.
