In which an ungainly yet commanding Shovel-nosed Shark is attended by a curious retinue of Pilot fish and parasitic Remoras, whose mysterious companionship and mutual understandings evoke wonder akin to ancient marvels. Observing their curious behaviour from a small boat, our narrator refrains from harm and witnesses the steadfast loyalty of the fish, which accompany the vessel as an auspicious escort for many days.
