Richard Holober has served as Executive Director of the Consumer Federation of California since 2001. In 2002, he co-founded Californians for Privacy Now, which was instrumental in winning the nation's strongest Financial Privacy Law (Senate Bill 1 of 2003). In his work with the Consumer Federation, he has advocated for legislation to expand health care patient rights, to protect the public from defective products, for food safety laws, and for stronger protections against fraudulent sales practices. Prior to joining the Consumer Federation of California, Richard served for over 20 years in leadership positions in the labor movement He served as a Legislative Advocate for the California Labor Federation for 13 years. In 1995 he founded the Liveable Wage Coalition and served as full time manager of the Proposition 210 campaign, which raised California's minimum wage by 35%. He has served as Political Director for the California Nurses Association and Southern California Director for US Senator Alan Cranston. Richard is a Trustee of the San Mateo County Community College District. He was elected in 1997, and re-elected in 2001 and 2005.
