Maria Sharapova (@MariaSharapova), Tennis champion, Investor and Entrepreneur joins Sports Business Radio to discuss how she has transitioned from being a 5-Time Grand Slam winner to being a force in the business world. Sharapova is the founder of Sugarpova (a premium chocolate & candy line) and is an investor in companies such as Tonal, Therabody and Public.com. She has appeared as a guest investor on the hit TV series “Shark Tank”. During her conversation with Sports Business Radio, Sharapova shares what she looks for in business partners, when she first thought about life after tennis and how she has built a global brand. Sharapova was the highest paid female athlete in the world for 11 consecutive years according to Forbes. After moving to the United States from Russia at the age of six to pursue her tennis career, Maria turned professional at age 14. She won Wimbledon at age 17 - the first of her five career Grand Slam titles - and was the 7th female player in the open era to complete the career Grand Slam. Since retiring from tennis in February 2020, Maria has not only been able to dedicate more time to running her premium confection line, Sugarpova, but also to exploring new ventures and expanding her business portfolio through multiple investments and partnerships across health and wellness, technology and finance. As a strategic advisor and investor to a variety of companies like Therabody and Tonal, Maria works closely with her partners, advising and collaborating with them on different aspects of each business.
