For the Cleveland Guardians, it's February 27th. Here's what's happening. Make sure you're subscribed so you never miss an update. Seattle Mariners beat the Cleveland Guardians 8-7 in a close Cactus League game on Thursday at the Peoria Sports Complex.
Kyle Raleigh drove in three runs with a couple of doubles for Seattle, while Cleveland got power from home runs by Juan Brito and Petey Halpin. Cleveland starter Joey Cancillo had a rough outing, giving up four runs, two earned, and one and one third innings on four hits. Defensive miscues early on, including a fielding error by Kyle Manzardo, helped Seattle jump to a 4-0 lead after two innings. The Guardians chipped away in the fourth when Brito hit a two-run homer, his first of the spring.
Halpin added a big three-run shot in the seventh to make it 7-5, showing off his off-season swing tweaks. Pitchers like Matt Festa and Doug Nikazi kept things competitive for Cleveland, with Festa straining a runner at third, and Nikazi limiting damage in the sixth. Seattle prospect Brock Rodden hit a solo homer in the eighth off Tommy Mace. Cleveland has lost three straight and sits at four wins and three losses in spring play.
They face the Cubs tomorrow at 3.05 p.m. at Goodyear Ballpark. The Daily News Now is grateful to our sponsor for today's episode. Some people meditate.
