Well, hello friends, and thank you for joining me in our daily reading from God's holy word. Today We're reading Mark chapter 5 and in this lesson we see Jesus heal the seemingly incurable if everyone else considered beyond help Before we read let's pray Our Father in heaven show us Jesus and help us put our hopes in him in his name. I pray amen Mark chapter 5 They came to the other side of the sea to the country of the garris scenes when Jesus had stepped out of the boat Immediately they're met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit He lived among the tombs and no one could bind him anymore Not even with the chain where he had often been bound with shackles and chains But he retched the chains apart and he broke the shackles and pieces No one had the strength to subdue him night and day among the tombs and on the mountains He was always crying out and cutting himself with stones And when he saw Jesus from afar he ran and fell down before him and crying out with a loud voice He said what have you to do with me Jesus son of the most high God? I adjure you by God do not torment me For he was saying to him come out of the man you unclean spirit and Jesus asked him what is your name?
He replied my name is legion for we are many and he begged him earnestly not to send them out of the country Now a great herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside and they begged him saying send to us the pigs Let us enter them so he gave them permission and the unclean spirits came out and entered the pigs and the herd numbering about 2000 rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the sea The herdsmen fled and told it in the city and in the country and people came to see what it was that it happened And they came to Jesus and saw the demon possessed man the one who had had the legion sitting there clothed and in his right mind And they were afraid and those who had seen it described to them what had happened to the demon possessed man into the pigs And they began to beg Jesus to depart from their region As he was getting into the boat the man who had been possessed with the demons begged him that he might be with him And he did not permit him but said to him go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you And how he has had mercy on you and he went away and began to proclaim in the decapolis How Jesus had done for him and everyone marveled And when Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side a great crowd gathered about him And he was beside the sea then came one of the rulers of the synagogue Jarius by name and seeing him he fell at his feet and implored him earnestly saying my little daughter is at the point of death Calm and lay your hands on her so that she may be made well and live And he went with him and a great crowd followed him and thronged about him And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for 12 years And he had suffered much under many physicians and had spent all that she had it was no better But rather grew worse She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment for she said if I touch even His garments I will be made well And immediately the flow of blood dried up and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease And Jesus proceeding in himself that power had gone out from him immediately turned about in the crowd and said who touched my garments And his disciples said to him you see the crowd pressing around you and yet you say who touched me? And he looked around to see who had done it But the woman knowing what had happened to her came in fear and trembling and fell down before him and told him the truth And he said to her daughter your faith has made you well go in peace and be healed of your disease While he was still speaking that came for the rulers house some who said your daughter is dead Why trouble the teacher any further? But overhearing what they said Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue do not fear Only believe and he allowed no one to follow him except Peter and James and John the brother of James They came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue and Jesus saw a commotion people weeping and wailing loudly and when he had entered He said to them what are you making a commotion and weeping? Why are you making a commotion and weeping the child is not dead but sleeping and they laughed at him But he put them all outside and took the child's father and mother and those who were with him and went in where the child was taking her by the Hand he said to her telleth a coomie which means little girl I say to you arise and immediately the girl got up and became walking for she was 12 years of age And they were immediately overcome with amazement and he strictly charged them that no one should know this and told them to give her something to eat Amen, this is God's word Jesus here can do what we think is impossible He can heal people the whole world has given up on these are three examples the first is a man possessed by a demon the demons in Legion that's like a small army and they so destroyed this man's life and made him so violent that everyone feared him No one wanted to be near him all had given hope that a pope that he could be helped There are mysteries here of course about spiritual forces of evil and there are questions that go way beyond a short comment But one thing is clear Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil to exert his authority and power over forces of darkness and he is victorious He gives this man back his right mind his health and to his family There's another hopeless case for 12 years a woman suffered unstoppable bleeding She has spent all her money on doctors.
Yeah, no physician could help her She was desperate But she had heard of the great physician too timid to ask for help but courageous enough to cut through the ground believing he could heal She simply reached out and touched him and his power healed her immediately Go in peace. He said your faith has made you well meaning not that that her believing healed herself But the object of her believing the one in whom she believed he healed her and then there was this a third impossible healing Jesus is asked to heal a young 12-year-old girl who is very sick. She's dying, but she is not yet dead Until Jesus is delayed by the crowd and the woman with believing then the girl does die her father sends a messenger Don't bother to come. She's gone, but Jesus says I will give her back to you Yeah, the people laughed at it, but he says little girl I say to you arise and she rises death is swallowed up in his victory.
Oh death. Where is your victory? Oh death? Where is your thing?
So a dangerous man devil possessed an exhausted woman disease oppressed desperate parents with a dead daughter Jesus has mercy on them all he is stronger than demons disease and death his power is made perfect in human weakness as a Lord Done great things for you go until others all that he has done for you How he has had mercy upon you and give them this hope a day is coming at the return of Jesus and glory when as the prophet Malachi says for those who fear his name the son of righteousness shall rise with healing in his wings and we shall go out leaping like Caves from the stall or as the prophet Isaiah says the eyes of the blind shall be open and the ears of the death Unstopped then shall the lame man leap like a deer and the tongue of the mute sing for joy for waters break forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert And in that day says Revelation 21 the dwelling place of God is with man He will dwell with them and they will be his people and God himself will be with them as their God He will wipe away every tear from their eyes and death shall be no more neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain anymore For the former things have passed away That's great news. Let's pray Father in heaven. Thank you for Jesus King Jesus conquering all his and our enemies even death itself We long for your return in glory come quickly Lord Jesus.
