Whether today is Mark Bauerlein author in his own right of the book, The Dumbest Generation of the Digital Age, Supervised Young Americans and Japartises Our Future. And can I call you Professor Bauerlein because it is your role as a professor that I need you today on today's podcast. We just got word up here in Boston where I live that an education at Boston University one year is going to cost more than $57,000. About a quarter of a million dollars for a four year degree, assuming you get it in four years from Boston University.

Now nothing against BU in the Terriers and certainly you're fine school, but a quarter of a million dollars. Is that really what a college degree is worth in America today? Well, the fact is you can get that rate. You know, when you think about the idea of college as a, you know, as a social good college as a part of creating citizens who are well rounded, it's hard to justify that when the price gets as high as a typical family's annual salary.

I do have out in a hundred thousand and a lot of them just don't realize when they lined up when they're mowing lawns and they're 15 years. Well, I was very smart, Professor Bareline. I majored in want fries with that. So I was ahead of the class on that.

But you write an interesting piece of the other thing that happens while these students are in college is that they are not just, they're not just going to encounter political liberalism. They're going to be bathed in political liberalism that the left has a strangle hold on academia. Sciences from the other side. And so and somebody has done some research on this that you reference in your weekly standard piece.

Now, I remember the last couple of decades. You don't really need anyone to come out and say to academia. You know, they're making a career. Well, you know, the theory is that it doesn't matter how liberal up kids get in college because once you get out in real world, they start looking at that paycheck and saying, Hey, who ordered FICA that they're just going to, you know, that the common sense and encounters with reality are going to drive people towards a more center or right.

We're looking view, but is it safe? Do you agree with that? Or do you think that losing academia means losing people for life when it comes to how they make their political and ideological decisions? Well, I have ideas.

Why without standing here, the great law college. These are the years when you read when you study ideas and you study. You're not going to get home when you're 30 years and read more of the federal newspapers. Right.

If you don't do it in cook, this is a place for ideas, galleries, right? Instead of thinking about things. Well, the good news, Professor of Bareline is that trust me, the kids aren't reading the canes, either. They're just partying, hanging out with their friends, doing bong hits and waiting for to find a who's house.

They're going to be out over the weekend. That's what they're really doing with their time. That's right. Getting college is a part-time job.

Thanks so much for joining us, Professor Bareline. We really appreciate it. This has been the weekly standard podcast. Please be sure to check out our offer from audible.com.
