Mark, Pt 28 - Christ Faces Pilate

The encounter between Jesus and Pontius Pilate reveals a profound truth about earthly power versus heavenly authority. While Pilate wielded tremendous political power as Roman governor, Jesus reminded him that all authority comes from above. The crucifixion was driven by unholy motives that still plague us today: fear of people, personal gain, hatred of truth, and especially envy. Envy, which motivated the religious leaders to hand Jesus over, offers no pleasure - only pain and destruction. We face the same choice Pilate presented: which Jesus do we want? The culturally acceptable one who lets us live as we please, or the Jesus of Scripture who calls us to repentance and transformation.
