And in that busy household, one of his sisters had a gift… not for doing chores, but for disappearing whenever they started. You could almost set your watch by it. Time to unload the dishwasher? Gone. Trash needs to be taken out? Nowhere to be found.Her disappearing act became such a family legend that even decades later, they still laugh about it. And as Jon became a dad, history repeated itself. One of his daughters seemed to have inherited that same disappearing gift—especially when it came to unloading groceries or folding laundry.Now, that kind of thing can be funny in a family setting. We tease, we laugh, we move on. But in the workplace, disappearing acts aren’t so harmless.Every leader—whether you’re running a small team or leading an entire organization—has faced the challenge of balancing morale for the hard workers while addressing those who aren’t pulling their weight. And here’s the reality: your hard-working team members notice when laziness is tolerated. Over time, that tolerance chips away at their motivation. Some get resentful. Others quietly start lowering their own standards. And before you know it, your culture and productivity have eroded.Proverbs 10:5 gives us a clear picture: the wise get to work when it’s time to work.
