Mark Chapters 7 and 8 were rough—heavy, challenging topics that pushed us deep into the hard teachings of Jesus. This week, we get a brief feel good moment before things intensify again as we move closer to the cross. Have you ever had a surreal spiritual moment—a mountaintop experience or what some call a “God moment”? Something so existential, so uncanny, it couldn’t possibly be coincidence. Maybe a near death experience, an unexpected blessing, or a strange calm in the middle of crisis. Maybe it was something small, just a little wink from God through a simple sign or circumstance. It’s as if God cracks open the door to the Kingdom of Heaven for a split second, giving us a glimpse before it closes again. These moments are unmistakable—here, then gone—but they become precious, intimate, deeply personal memories. We try to describe them to others; maybe they believe us, maybe they don’t, but no one can appreciate them the way we do. They’re powerful, memorable, and they leave us wondering: Are they real? What’s their purpose? Why does God send them? This week, we study the Transfiguration of Jesus on Mount Tabor with Moses and Elijah—one of the most breathtaking “God moments” in all of Scripture.
