Few things are as heartwarming as watching a patient dog endure the poking and prodding of a toddler—gentle, loyal, and motivated by love. As I prepared this message, it struck me that this is often how Jesus must be with us. We love those videos because they show a kind of patient affection that feels almost supernatural. And in today’s passage, we see Jesus displaying that same patient love toward His disciples yet again. As He heads toward Jerusalem, fully aware of the suffering that awaits Him, His followers still misunderstand, still stumble, still miss the point. Yet Jesus remains steady, compassionate, and committed. This week’s message gives us another glimpse of a Savior whose patience isn’t passive, it’s sovereign. He walks with us not because we are easy, but because His love is stronger than our confusion, our weakness, and our repeated failures. It’s a reminder that Jesus doesn’t just tolerate His disciples; He tenderly shepherds them, even when they don’t realize how much they need it.
