#MarkTheEvangelist(GospelOfMark) No.56- Jesus' Tax Returns

from GraceLife Sarasota · host Joe Davis

You know that feeling when an unexpected envelope from the IRS shows up in your mailbox, especially in August? Your stomach drops a little. Most of us have paid for tax help at some point, whether through an accountant, a tax service, or even TurboTax, because we want to avoid two things: overpaying and getting in trouble. And with stories of celebrities owing millions or even going to jail over tax violations, it’s no wonder people take their tax obligations seriously. We want everything in order because the consequences can be costly. But here’s the question Jesus forces us to consider: do we spend as much time thinking about what we owe God as we do about what we owe the IRS? In this passage, Jesus cuts through political traps and personal anxieties to reveal a deeper truth about allegiance, responsibility, and what it really means to give God what belongs to Him. This week, we study the familiar phrase, “Render to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and render to God what belongs to God.” And we ask the real question: what does that mean for us today? Is Jesus simply giving a lesson on paying taxes, or is He exposing something far more profound about loyalty, identity, and the true King we belong to?
