#MarkTheEvangelist(GospelOfMark) No.57- God Of The Living

from GraceLife Sarasota · host Joe Davis

The other day someone scoffed at me for believing in my “imaginary friend” and in Heaven. It didn’t shake me, but it did make me pause and reflect. What is it about Jesus that makes following Him worth everything? Why do we gather as a church family, give, serve, worship, and devote ourselves to Scripture? What inspires Christians to sacrifice worldly comforts for something greater? I believe it’s the promise of resurrection—the hope of life beyond this one, with all its glory and restoration. Without that promise, Christianity would be foolish, pointless, and a waste of time. Without eternal accountability or eternal reward, this broken world would be our only hope. And I can tell you this: if not for the resurrection, I wouldn’t waste my time being your pastor. Today’s passage brings us face to face with the core of our faith—the God of the living, and the hope that makes everything worth it. We look at the moment when the Sadducees tried to trap Jesus with a question about the resurrection, not realizing they were challenging the very foundation of Christian hope. Their attempt exposes the difference between religious skepticism and genuine faith, and it reminds us why the resurrection isn’t just a doctrine—it’s the heartbeat of everything we believe.
