Marres Special: Gestures as Portals

from Sensing Art, Training the Body · host Marres, Huis voor Hedendaagse Cultuur

In the run-up to a new exhibition at Marres, House for Contemporary Culture in Maastricht, director Valentijn Byvanck interviews participating artists, performers and curators. In this episode he sits down with choreographer and dancer Amparo González Sola during her research and ongoing performance Gestures as Portals.Gestures are central to González Sola’s practice. She approaches them as portals to memory and connectors between bodies, shaped by context, inherited through generations, and always relational. During her time at Marres, she and co-performer Leandro de Souza worked with the gestures found in the rooms: those of the performers, the visitors, the workers, and traces from the former exhibition Vultures & Fireflies by Mexican artist Alejandro Galván.Podcast recording & edit: Jesus Serrano Huitron
