Marshall's Movies: The Apartment (1960)

from Pop Break Today · host Pop Break Today

Ever since Marshall Craig was taken from us on December 18, 2020, his mother Carla Craig has worked tirelessly with his friends and loved ones to ensure his memory lives on. So far, this has led to his massive book collection being donated to the library at his Alumni, The California University Of Pennsylvania, a bench installed at a park where he loved to see the sunset, and the beginnings of a charity called Marshall’s Revolution. This is a year long miniseries designed by The Pop Break Staff Writer Sam Niles to progress his memory by having some discussions about movies in Marshall’s collection. Marshall has an incredible collection and could talk for hours about film, so some of his friends got together and made a podcast to invite guests with both a passion and knowledge for film to discuss selections from his collection once a month. With this being the final installment of this iteration of the podcast, Sam has included the below message to his listeners: This episode of Marshall’s Movies will not be the last, but it will be the last hosted by The Pop Break. Roughly a year ago, editor Alex Marcus was looking for a temporary podcast to fill in a scheduling gap, and I brought up this idea on a whim. I was initially worried the subject matter might be too heavy, and didn’t really expect it to go anywhere, but I was met with unequivocal enthusiasm and support by Alex, editor in chief Bill Bodkin, and The Pop Break family as a whole. Indeed, the podcast was originally planned for six months, but after the first episode, they immediately planned it for a full year. I think it’s safe to say that, while the podcast will continue elsewhere, I don’t think it would exist to begin with without their support, and I look forward to the new podcast that will take our place. We are still sorting out where Marshall’s Movies will continue, but for anyone curious, you can look to the Marshall’s Revolution Facebook page, or feel free to reach out to me, Sam, at my email: [email protected], for inquiries. And, once more, thank you again to The Pop Break. For this final episode, we will be discussing one of Billy Wilder's masterpieces The Apartment, and we have a dear friend of Marshall, Ryan Myers, on to discuss it with us. As both Ryan and Marshall are massive fans of Wilder, it only felt right to bring him on to discuss Wilder's wonderfully charming yet viscerally emotional masterwork.
