Martha Ackmann: The Woman Behind Dolly Parton | Ain’t Nobody’s Fool | Up+Adam

from Up + Adam with Adam Montiel · host Adam Montiel

Sponsored by The Mountain Air | Sponsored by Benny’s Pizza | SLOFreeParking Acclaimed biographer and award-winning author Martha Ackmann joins Up+Adam for a timely conversation about Dolly Parton, following the country icon’s death at 80. Ackmann’s latest book, Ain’t Nobody’s Fool: The Life and Times of Dolly Parton, looks far beyond the rhinestones and one-liners to the woman who built one of the most recognizable public identities in American culture while still keeping a remarkable amount of herself private. Adam and Martha talk about the tension between Dolly’s image and authenticity, the strength she drew from the Smoky Mountains, the career setbacks that forced her to reinvent, and the way she could be underestimated without ever being outmatched. The conversation also gets into the parts of Dolly the public never fully got, why her late-career return to bluegrass mattered so much, and what becomes clearer when a life this big suddenly shifts from the present tense into history. • Learn more about Martha Ackmann: Martha Ackmann official website • About Ain’t Nobody’s Fool: Book page and purchase links • Buy from Macmillan/St. Martin’s Press: Macmillan book page ******** *PORTABIDET: UP+ADAM IS AN OFFICIAL AFFILIATE FOR PORTABIDET - USE THIS LINK FOR UP+ADAM LISTENERS TO LEARN MORE AND GET YOURS!
