Martinez Debut Sparks Chelsea Keeper Drama | Chelsea F.C. News

Chelsea pulled off a bold move, thrusting veteran goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez into the starting lineup just hours after his £7.5m transfer was finalized—just as he turns 34 and after being out of favor at Aston Villa. Martinez delivered a solid debut, earning cheers from the home crowd and making key saves, including a dramatic stop on Diego Gomez right before Brighton’s second goal. Though two goals weren’t his fault—one deflected in as an own goal, another bounced off him—he proved crucial for Chelsea’s shaky defense. The signing signals a potential turning point for the Blues, with Robert Sanchez now sidelined and possibly on the move. With a reliable keeper in place and the offense firing, Chelsea are primed for a big season—and their next test? Arsenal on Sunday, September 6th.
