Mary Coughlin on the Power of Story and Compassionate Connections

In this episode titled 'Mary's Musings,' Mary Coughlin shares insights from her recent keynote presentation at the Christiana Care's biennial perinatal palliative care symposium in Newark, Delaware. Her talk, 'Bridging Hearts, Nurturing Authentic and Compassionate Connections,' emphasized the significance of personal stories in fostering compassionate connections. Coughlin recounts her pivotal role as a pioneer in trauma-informed care, especially in the newborn ICU, a journey that began in 2014 with a standing ovation at the NANN annual conference. She shares a touching narrative about a critical care moment in the NICU that underscores her advocacy for developmental care, which she basically believes is love in action.  She also reflects on her own personal NICU experience to highlight the ongoing challenges and urgent present day need to integrate love, kindness, and compassion into healthcare.
