And everywhere that Mary went, Mary went, Mary went, everywhere that Mary went the soul went soft and small. It followed her to market square, market square, market square, followed her to market square to watch the children fall. They sold the truth for copper coins, copper coins, copper coins, sold the truth for copper coins and laughed when mercy called. Mary’s soul grew thin and gray, thin and gray, thin and gray, Mary’s soul grew thin and gray with every screen they scrolled. It begged her once with trembling voice, trembling voice, trembling voice, begged her with a trembling voice “Please keep me safe from all.” But Mary scrolled and Mary clicked, Mary clicked, Mary clicked, Mary scrolled and Mary clicked until the begging stopped. Now Mary walks with hollow eyes, hollow eyes, hollow eyes, Mary walks with hollow eyes past neighbors on the wall. They scream in loops, they beg for likes, beg for likes, beg for likes, scream in loops and beg for likes while children learn to maul. Kindness bled out in the street, in the street, in the street, kindness bled out in the street beneath a thousand calls. Mary had a little soul… little soul… little soul… Mary had a little soul— but no one noticed when it crawled into the dark and died alone.
