Mary Koncel

Mary A. Koncel's collections of prose poems include Closer to Day (Quale Press, 1999), You Can Tell the Horse Anything (Tupelo Press, 2003), and The Last Blonde (Hedgerow Books/Levellers Press, 2017).  Her work has been published in numerous journals and anthologies and nominated for several Pushcart Prizes.  Mary was awarded a grant for her poetry from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and You Can Tell the Horse Anything was a finalist for the Poetry Society of America’s Norma Farber First Book Award. After receiving a Master’s in Animals and Public Policy from the Center for Animals and Public Policy at Tufts School of Veterinary Medicine, Mary has spent the past 10 years advocating for wild horses and burros and the public lands where they reside.  She is also an Adjunct Instructor at the Center with a research interest in equine welfare. She lives in Worthington, MA with her husband and many animals including Rain, a mustang mare. and Huck and Puck, two adopted burros.
