Welcome to the Tweet Trends podcast. Hey, Evette, what's trending today? Hey, I mean that's pay girl. And you are tuned in to Tweet Trends.
It's the quickest way to find out what's trending today. Mask on or off. Let's get started. As long as you are not living under a rock, then I know you've definitely heard the revised CDC guidelines for wearing masks.
If you are fully vaccinated, meaning you've had your first and second dose of the Pfizer or the Moderna shot, or if you've had the Johnson-Johnson single shot, and are 14 days out from that last shot, then you are considered fully vaccinated. And if you are fully vaccinated, they are now saying that you do not have to mask any longer, whether it's indoors or outdoors. Your chance for getting the virus is way low. And then even if you do get the virus, your chance to transmit it to someone else is extremely low, as well as the fact that you probably will be a symptomatic, meaning you will not show any symptoms of having COVID.
Now, of course, you know, in every situation, there is an exception to the rule. There have been people who have gotten vaccinated that yes, they have caught COVID and yes, they've been hospitalized and yes, some have even died. There's always an exception to the rule. Now, where all of this comes into play is that now, we are being presented with an opportunity to make a decision.
You're either going to decide to continue to wear the mask because you feel like, although I'm vaccinated, there are a lot of people out there who are not. So if I can continue to do something that can possibly protect other people and myself, then I'll go ahead and do that. Now, the other side of that coin is you can choose not to wear your mask. It's up to you.
That is what they're doing. They're putting it in every individual person's hands, and that's scary. Okay, so you may be wondering why I think that this is scary, and it all kind of revolves around the idea that we are all being asked to kind of be on the honor system. And unfortunately, I don't feel like there's a whole lot of honor in the United States.
There are some people here that are so stuck on their rights and privileges and whatnot, that when it was a thing, when it was big, they didn't want to wear their mask. They were complaining that their rights were being violated by being asked to wear a mask. And now that there's no way to identify one person who has been vaccinated from one who hasn't, I don't see why anyone in particular, especially those people who felt like their rights were being violated, why they would go and suddenly decide to wear a mask now if they had not gotten vaccinated already. There's no reason for them to do so.
They're gonna look at it now as a free for all. Well, now that the CDC is saying that people don't have to wear a mask, I'm not gonna wear a mask, and I'm not gonna get vaccinated because I don't know what you're putting in those vaccines. I don't know how you were able to come up with a vaccine so fast. And besides, I think it's all a hoax.
This wasn't even a thing. You guys just came up with this because you hate America. You know, it's stuff like that that drives me bonkers. And so yeah, I personally am still gonna wear my mask.
I have a child in my household that has not been vaccinated. She does not meet any of the age requirements to get vaccinated. So what I don't want to do is to be so willy-nilly and free-loving and whatnot going out and everywhere and doing everything and catch something and bring it back to my sweet little baby because if I do, I could never forgive myself. On top of that, I have a mother who is up in age and I wanna go and hug and love on her, although she's been vaccinated as well because there is still a percent chance that you can get it and it can still kill you, that you know what?
I'm not willing to take that chance. I love my mother too much. I love my friends and family too much. I refuse to let myself be the weakest link because I wanna wear my makeup because I want you to see my Fire Engine Red lipstick.
No, it is not that serious. Wear a mask. That's what I'm gonna do. Now, I can't tell you to do that because you may have your own convictions.
You may feel a certain way about it. And that is fine and dandy, but as for me and my house, we will continue to wear a mask. Do do do. Bottom line for me is that no man is an island.
Any decision that I make, it's going to inevitably affect those people around me. So when I make a decision to wear or not to wear a mask, it's gonna affect the people around me. And basically, you know, you can't look at a person and tell if they've been vaccinated or not, just like you can't look at a person and tell if they have heart disease or AIDS. You just don't know because that's an internal thing, not an external thing.
And as far as the honor code goes, yeah, I'm not even feeling that. We saw what happened at the nation's capital. And really, I don't think that there's much honor going around, especially in these days and times. And so although the CDC has revised their guidelines, I know in a way it's to help with the economy, to get people out and about doing more things.
Because a lot of us, and I will admit, I'm one of them, I've gotten a little comfortable being to myself and I'm okay with it. And that's just how it is. I'm good with being in my house, but they want people to get back out and start spending money again. And I get it, you know, however, I'd rather be safe than sorry.
I'd rather protect myself and protect you than to pretend like there's nothing going on out there. And that nothing could possibly go wrong. Because in fact, although it's a 95% risk reduction, whereas it was more of a one in 50 chance, now it's a one in 1000 chance. But when you think of the hundreds of thousands of people that live in the United States and in various cities, it's still, that number can be rather large of the number of people that can still contract, catch and possibly die from the coronavirus.
And one other thing, last and most importantly, on my list are the children and the elderly. There's only, not only, there's less than half of the United States that's been vaccinated. So when you think about that and you go into a room with 10 people, you look at it and think of it as five of the people in the room with you, haven't been vaccinated. You know?
And just think about those numbers and how that makes you feel. If you have people in your family, their children or elderly, think about them as well. And you know, like I said before, I can't tell you how to make this decision. I can't tell you what to do, but you know, personally, I'm okay with it.
It's fine. It's a mask. You know, we lived in Japan for a little while and over there, it's considered the right thing to do if you are ill to wear a mask. And because I don't know, I can't look inside my body and tell if I'm asymptomatic and carrying the coronavirus around with me, then why not go ahead and err on the side of caution and just wear a mask?
Hey, I gotta go. Thanks for hanging out with me for today's episode of Tweet Trends. Do me a favor and look me up on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, any of those places at HEVET, that's at H-E-E-V-E-E-T-T-E or just look at the hashtag Tweet Trends. All right.
