Massive American Eel Found Inland | St. Louis News

A massive 37-inch American eel was spotted in the Mississippi River near Hannibal, Missouri—far inland and way bigger than average. Found during a blue sucker survey, this rare female eel stunned scientists with her size, as most females only reach 16-33 inches. These ocean-born creatures migrate thousands of miles to spawn, but face deadly barriers like dams. Her discovery is a thrilling reminder that nature still surprises us—even in familiar waters.
