Master the One Skill That Will Save Your Relationship with Your Teen" How to Become a Teen Listener, Not Just a Teen Manager Step 1: Be Present Put the phone down. Look into their eyes. Don’t wait to speak — wait to feel what they’re saying. Step 2: Reflect, don’t react Instead of saying “Why are you so angry again?” Try: “I can see this really matters to you.” Step 3: Ask, “Do you want advice or just someone to listen?” This one changed everything for me — it gives them power over how they want to be supported. Step 4: Don’t fix the silence. Respect it. Sometimes they need space before they share. Trust that your calm presence still speaks. So mama, if there’s one thing I want you to take away from today: Listening is not passive. It’s powerful. It’s healing. Start today.
