Welcome to Dana Brant. I'm Brandon. I'm Dan. What's up, man?

Check him out. Oh, yeah. Nice. He was a bottle cap.

He sure did, buddy. What do you want to do? I haven't been up to much, man. Just got my roof fixed yesterday.

Like completely? Or did somebody just come out and? I had two dormer windows that would have been leaking non-stop. We've gotten them fixed like three times.

What's a dormer window? It's the fake window into the attic. Oh, those things. Yeah, so we just ripped those out and put flat wood and shingled over it.

Why do people do that? Just ventilation? For looks. Let's make it look like your house is a two-story house.

That's the only reason. I guess. Yeah, because windows are not like events, anything. I don't have one of those in my house.

Yeah, they're ridiculous. They're just prone for leaks. So we got room. Cool.

What do they do? Just rip them out, cover up plywood, and shingled over the spots. That's cool. Yeah, I might be getting my roof completely replaced.

Nice. For a pretty decent price, thanks to insurance. I feel for a second that I'm fucking somebody over. But that's the point of insurance.

Yeah, that's totally the point of insurance. And of course, my super cynical wife was like, fuck them. We've been paying money for three. How much money for how many years?

They're finally good for something. And yeah, I was just out mowing my lawn. And some roofing guy was looking for one of my neighbors. And he's like, Jeff.

And I'm like, nope. Dan? Yeah. OK.

Well, yeah. Go ahead and get up on that roof and take a look. If you wanted to do a roof inspection. And he was like, oh, yeah.

I can do that. Sweet. Awesome. Because I could tell he was kind of like trying to sell something anyway.

Yeah. So I could go there and look. Go ahead. Like one of those autoglass dudes.

Looks like you had a couple chips on your shield, dude. Yeah, but I'm not going to worry about this right now, guy. Yeah. Pretty much either when I'm forced to, you know, like anything, when I'm forced to or, you know, it becomes an inconvenience.

Yeah. When it starts to impact my life, then I'll worry about it, OK? Which until I will ignore all red flags and signs, of course, like the doctor or anything else in my life, which is pretty great. So I might get an entirely new roof for a pretty reasonable price, which is nice because my house was built in like 2004.

It's just one of those things that's like been hanging over my head. Yep. For years, like I'm going to have to replace that shit. Yeah.

No, I'm going to have to replace that shit. They hadn't been replaced at all. No, hasn't been touched. Yeah.

Because what we're just going to say, what? 10 years. 20. 20 your roof is pretty expensive, but this is not a 20.

Oh, yeah. Well, which is why you haven't replaced after about 15 years. Yeah, dude. Bad.

No. And it's pretty well constructed house, even though it's track go home. And dude said it was going to be like, you know, basically he said, we don't sell your shitty shingles anymore. Like, that's not even legal.

So it's like, even if you guys don't like upgrade to like some fancy shingle, it's still going to be way nicer than what you have now. Yeah, absolutely. Which always makes you feel good. Like when the like the bargain basement, like standard of anything is better than what you have.

Yeah. Yeah. I think like seven years or something like that. And so the shingles are faded.

So now you can see where they kind of patched over the door windows because they're new shingles. Yeah, it matches. But it's gray, gray, gray, black, whatever. Yeah.

Do you patch a little awning over the porch out there? Like, I don't know about a year ago. Totally forgot that he like removed a shingle from the back. And like the roofing guy like pictures, he's like, yeah, you're totally missing a shingle on the other side.

And like, how did that happen? But apparently there's been some wind damage pretty recently. And he had the exact time and date. I don't know, that's possible.

Apparently when the creases are like super dark, they're fairly recent. But if the creases and the creases, I mean from like the wind blowing the shingle up and it like flaps in the wind, apparently they don't stay dark. Like once the sun hits, yeah, they turn gray. So he was able to convince the insurance company for me.

I'm sure it was good for him. Yes. Free job. Or are you doing yesterday?

You're saying what's on, what's the Spider-Man, I guess? Yeah. I went yesterday for you. So yeah, I went to Spider-Man.

How was it? I like the new Spider-Man movies. Yeah, I like the Spider-Man. I think Sony's finally doing the right thing with Spider-Man.

By letting Disney do it? Yeah. Let's fill the Sony picture. What's your hairpin?

I mean, yeah, it's pretty much like, hey guys, follow our rules here. We're Disney. Dude, have you seen any of the new shit from the like Star Wars land? Yeah, I want to go.

I want to wait for them to be under-centrally though. I think it's pretty close. Yeah, I think they're still adding some more stuff. And I want to wait for that to be done before I go back.

But yeah, it looks, have you seen the fucking lightsaber shit? Or like the Millennium Falcon? Yeah, I've seen that. The lightsaber shit is cool.

It's like a outdoor market, like a mausage league or something. Yeah. And you walk up to somebody who's like, don't say anything. But pick from these parts and they pull out drawers and stuff and they make your own lightsaber.

And then you go into a separate place where everybody stands in a circle and you construct your lightsaber. And then you jam it into this thing where the crystals are housed or whatever. And then everybody pulls out their lightsaber at the same time and holds them up and they all activate at the same time. It's cool as shit.

That actually seems pretty cool. Yeah, it looks like it costs like $200 to get one. Hey, you can see. Probably not.

They probably have base models. Yeah, I'm sure it's just like a wands you make at like Magic Quest. You ever been there? No.

Like you can kind of build your wand and you go around and it's kind of like an interactive thing. You like point your wand and stuff and it talks to you or starts anematronic thing. Is that Harry Potter? No.

Where's Magic Quest? It's in like Myrtle Beach and stuff. It's kind of big, really? Mm-hmm.

Because this is like a thing like David Buster's like I should know this, like that Magic Quest exists. And I'm probably not. I mean, if you had kids, I would expect you to know what it is. Yeah, maybe.

But it's not like an adult thing to do. But it's still pretty cool. Right now. So I saw a wand, a Harry Potter wand that was like built for teaching kids how to code.

Yeah, I've seen that too, which is weird. I don't understand. Yeah, I should hear your views. Well, I was looking for gifts for a friend's kid, not too long ago.

And she's about that like eight or nine age, but she's super fucking smart. So I'm like, oh, maybe this is work. And I'm like looking into it. I'm like, what do they just program it to like, oh, when you move it side to side, it does this or something?

Yeah. Like you can make your own, like you're programming your spells, but it's like based on your hand movements, like a circle and then a flip and then zigzag. Yeah. It's really odd.

Yeah. It's pretty cool though. Just teach kids, I guess. Do you think they would use it to code with?

I doubt it. Yeah, it just seems weird. Does it light up? That's all I really want.

Yeah. So what about Law of Traction Man? You've been sticking with that last episode? Man, it's, yeah, it has.

I'm pretty sure that I'm the master of the universe, and everybody just kind of lives in my universe. Danna's here. Because I deem it so. Nice.

Yeah. Like mantras, man. I don't know what you want to call it. Mantras, prayers, power, positive thinking, whatever.

Focus. Yeah, maybe focus. I recommend it, man. Like I just like say shit out loud to myself in the shower.

Like today's going to be a good day. I know it sounds cheesy as fuck. I don't care. Sounds like an ice cube song.

Yeah. Maybe I want to use my AK. But maybe I want to use my AK. That's my point.

Yeah. Here's the thing, man. Like what does anybody want? I mean, you want to be happy, right?

Yeah. So I say shit like that. I'm like, I'm going to have a good day. I'm going to be happy about it.

You know, there might be some. Pumps in the road or challenges to overcome. But you know what? It's going to go better than I expected.

And I'm going to be OK with it. Yeah. Every day that I do that, it does go better than I expected. Like remarkably so.

Nice. Like, hasn't been that bad at all. Like work. I'm saying like stuff you don't want to do is not been shitty.

Yeah, it makes sense. And maybe it's just an attitude thing? I don't even really know. I think it is.

Maybe just like focusing my brain on like, hey, you can handle this shit. Before you like even get started for the day is a good way to go. Instead of just like, I don't know. I feel like beginning of the day, it's natural to be like, oh, fuck this.

I don't want to do this. Yeah, you wake up like half. You tell yourself and then you tell your friends, you tell your wife or whoever will fucking listen. And I don't want to do this.

I want to have to bed. Just a bad mood for the start and it just never gets better. Yeah, because you're telling yourself all those negative things to start the day with. But if you start with, it's going to be great.

I'm going to have fun. I'm going to find something really hilarious at some point and I'm going to tell everybody about it. You know, just stupid things that I'm just like telling myself in the morning. It works out great.

I can see it. Yeah. Can you tell? I'm going to tell.

Yeah. Yeah. I'm going to tell. What about you, man?

Have you learned anything? You learned anything from our podcast at all. I was doing it long before the podcast and wave life. I'm just a positive guy.

I have so many fucking notes for this podcast, but I'm probably not going to get through any of them. Yeah. So this week we're talking about math. I guess it's just the general idea of what we're talking about.

I'm sorry. It's weird. It's pronounced maths. Technically, yes, because we're talking about different types of math.

Maths. No, I'm talking about the British. Why do they do that? Why do they put it?

That's the maths. Like I get it. It's more than a type of math. Yeah, sure.

But maths class. No, you can't say that. That's what they say. No, you wouldn't go to a class that has multiple maths you're learning at the same time.

They say a lot of shit. Weird. Basil. Tomato.

I'm totally on board with aluminium though. Aluminium. Aluminium. If we could switch that, I'd be fine with it.

We can all adopt that. I'd be happy to go into the metric system. Whoa. Whoa.

I don't need miles of the fuck down. Just give me all of the visible by 10, man. This is America, dude. We don't do that shit.

I know. Imperial systems. Let's be complicated about it. And then again, they all said, how many stones do you weigh?

How many hands high is that horse? Oh, high. How many bushels are you carrying? Do you know that a small burden of sticks is referred to as a faggot?

Yeah. Just thought I'd throw that in there. I guess you weren't familiar with old-timey terms. I think everyone even knows that.

Everybody knows that. I don't think so. A small burden. Did you like math as a kid?

Wasn't a big fan. No. I didn't excel. Exceedingly excelling that.

I did okay. I did okay. I thought I was better at math than I was. And I regret pushing this subject.

Yeah. So to speak. I wanted to be in advanced courses. Yeah.

And I regret that shit because algebra is hard. And I took that in seventh grade. Yeah, I think I did too. Fuck you, man.

I was always in advanced courses. I liked math courses. I was in advanced courses until math was the only thing I was in advanced in. Geometry, freshman year high school.

I remember quite vividly. And you know, thinking back, how many classes do you remember vividly? I remember freshman geometry really well because it was fucking traumatizing. That's why.

Like, damn it. I didn't want to do proofs. I didn't want to prove anything. I didn't want to go through all that shit.

That is one thing I hate. That is the answer. Why don't I have to show you my work, bitch? I just want to, that is the answer.

I can't show you how I came up with that. Yeah, I was way more interested in like, you know, add, subtract, divide. I always like multiply as, you know, a joke. Statistics, but I was kind of a bit of a gambler.

I'd like to multiply with you. I'll show my work. Oh, yeah. Get it.

But no, I guess what really got me into math though is cryptography. What? Yeah. Why would you get into that?

I was a weird kid, man. I was in a weird stuff as a kid. Cryptography. What do you mean?

Like hidden codes? Yeah. Like using mathematics to using an old teen ring to figure out the secret code. Well, yeah.

And also how like the enigma machine work. Like, I just how like mathematically they would break codes, I guess. I don't know. It's interesting, too, isn't it like the basis for modern computing is pretty much Alan Turing's desire to break the enigma machine?

Yeah. Like, that's pretty much why we have computers. Yeah. It's like, yeah, that's cool machine you got there.

Watch me. I'm gonna just make computers. Pretty fucking amazing. As a kid, did you ever read the book The Phantom Toll booth?

No, I've heard of it though. And that was my favorite book as kid too. What was that about? It's like basically this kid ends up in like this math land.

Like Donald and Math Magic Land? Like Donald and Math Magic Land? I don't know what that is. You don't know what that is?

No. Fucking Donald Duck. In Math Magic Land, did you not have Disney Channel grownup? I don't think I did.

Fuck. It was on all the time. And I think of it every single time I play pool because that's all I think. Yeah.

Yeah. Puffaggering and Theorem and Geometry. Yeah. It's cool, it should.

That's kind of what the The Phantom Toll was like. Really? Yeah. Like he meets a watchdog, but the dog is actually like a clock.

He's a watch dog. Oh, yeah. That plays on words like that. You know, he goes through all the like these Geometry and stuff like that.

Did they ever make it into a film? I want to say there was a cartoon, but I don't know if I've ever seen it. Yeah, it was ripped off by Disney. It's called Donald Duck.

Yeah. It totally ripped that shit off. Yeah. But other other movies and stuff like a beautiful mind.

I almost found stuff like that interesting. It's pretty amazing. Did you ever see pie? Daren are not a ski movie.

I never did either. Like everybody that I probably should, especially preparing for this or trying to. Yeah. Everybody I'll ever talk to about pie was like, I don't watch it'll give you any.

I'm like, yeah, you probably right. Was it about math? Yeah. It's about a guy that I was thinking of life of pie where the dudes in the boat with the tiger.

Yeah, I don't know how that's related, but. This is the dude who like figures out the stock market, like figures out how to basically pick stocks somehow. Who? Pie?

What? The movie pie? Oh, I don't know what it's about. I just know that it's about some dude named Max something right like that.

It's like why it? No. Well, maybe. I don't know what I'm thinking about.

I don't know. I don't know. Anyway, yeah. He just can't stop seeing mathematical patterns and things.

Okay. That'd be interesting. I might have to circle much less. Maybe.

What's your favorite number? I'll let you guess. My favorite number is 1042. Oh, right.

Yeah. I'm 42. But other than that, I would say probably 13. I know it's an unlucky number.

That's probably why I like it because it's not really unlucky. I don't know. Or 28. Like 28 do.

Really? Yeah. Why 28? That's weird.

I don't know. Just I like 28. By the way, speaking of 13, did you know that 11 plus two, like written out in words, is an anagram of 12 plus one. What?

Really? And they both equal 13. Interesting. Yeah, that's kind of interesting.

Yeah. Well, did you know if you write 3.14? Yeah, and then flip it around. In a mirror, it says bye.

Yeah. What if that's how they came up with the name of it? Almost has to be right? Well, no, because I is P, which is way before they had English letters off.

Okay. Come on. So you're going to buy? I don't want to get into buying this yet.

Actually, I had another fun fact. You want to do some fun facts? Yeah, I'll do some fun facts. I got some fun facts, man.

I got some crazy fun facts. Math fun facts. Yeah, math facts. Do you know about multiplying by nine on your hands?

Well, you just move your finger over. Yeah. Yeah. Do you know that it works over the single digits?

How? If you add a 10 in front of it, so check this out. Like, I think what is it? Nine plus and nine times 12 is 144, right?

Yes. Well, actually, I'll show you. On my hands. So for those of you who don't know, imagine your sticking your hands straight out.

Hold both of your hands. Assuming you have 10 fingers. Good point. Hold your hands in front of you in anything times nine.

So like nine times four. So you take the fourth finger and you hold it down. And then you read the fingers that are still up. So that would be three.

Three. And then six. Six. Thirty six.

Which is right. Yeah. So check this out. So nine times what did I say?

Twelve. Twelve. I bet you it's one away. No, it's one forty four.

It is one forty four. Are you sure? So if you won. No, no, it's not one forty four.

No, I can't. No, use your phone. Go ahead. No, I'm so smart.

Let's do math. Then put a math in. Is it one away? Because that would be awesome.

Copy later. One away, buddy. Yes. And it works for all of them.

So check it out. So nine times what? Fifteen. Let's do fifteen.

One and five. So it would be 10. Thirty. Five.

One thirty five. One thirty five. Right on. Isn't that fucking awesome?

That's very interesting. I didn't know it worked beyond just the single number. Yeah, so I used to spend a lot of time by myself at work. Because I worked a place where I was an inside loan officer for a real estate company.

Well, if nobody had anything for me to do, I was literally not allowed to do anything else. I had to be available. That was part of my job. So holy shit, you spend a lot of time doing nothing.

And I was just like staring at my hands one day and I'm like, fuck. Apparently this is a pretty common thing that you teach children when you're like teaching math about the nines. But I didn't know about it. I know.

I don't remember how I did it. But I know I had a whole method on how to go even higher up into the thousands. Oh really? Yeah.

That's crazy. You want to hear something crazy? Yeah. Alright.

So if you just take a bunch of ones, let's say like a stack of 1111, 1111 times the same thing. The answer comes out to one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one. And even smaller numbers are the worst thing. So 111 times 111.

One, two, three, two, one. What? Whoa. So no matter how many ones always, I don't know what happens when you go.

So what's the ratio? So how many numbers does it end up? So like four ones plus four ones. Well, it's however many ones.

So four ones plus four ones is going to be one, two, three, four, three, two, one. It goes up to the number of ones that you're using. Holy fuck. Yeah.

That's crazy. I don't know what happens if you go above nine. But yeah, anywhere between, I guess it doesn't really work for her. No, yeah, it would.

That's super bizarre, dude. Yeah. Because even 11 times 11 is 121, which is 121. It's two ones.

Fuck. A bunch of math problems today, man. And I don't know if you knew one is the loneliest number. What is the loneliest number?

I had to do it at some point. If you didn't, I would. Man, you know, one of my favorite things on Sesame Street was the fucking pinball. I was like, do you see the pinball machine where they're like, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, 11, 12.

Boop boop boop boop boop. Yeah. It's fucking great. Sesame Street was fantastic.

I didn't see it in the 70s, but that's what they replayed when I was a kid. Did you know that the Romans hadn't know zero? The Romans hadn't know zero? They didn't know zero in the Roman numeral.

Oh, you're right. All right. Weird. Well, they all, they used letters.

Well, there's nothing that equals zero. What the fuck did they do before the Arabic numbers? Pebels? I don't know.

Did they even do math? Yeah, right. It's weird. It's weird, bro.

Do you even math, bro? Check this out. Check it out. 23 people in a room.

What do you think the odds that two people have the same birthday? Just 23 people. 23 people. The odds that two people have the same birthday?

I mean, it's got to be ridiculous, right? Well, I mean, 50%. Fuckin' up. If you have 75 people, it's 99% chance that two people in that room have the same birthday.

Well, why is that? Think about it. 23. No, the math doesn't work out.

It's just a weird statistical anomaly. Ah, fucking stats. Yeah, right. It's just one of those weird things.

It's like, how does that even work out? Like, you would think it'd be like, I mean, out of every day of the year. So, is that like one of those weighted average things that I don't understand? Yeah, like more people are born on these particular days than other days?

Yeah, like the efficiency stats that they have in sports. Like, yeah, this guy might have the most points, but does he have the most points in clutch games or does he have the most points after the other team misses? Yeah. Like, they have like efficiency ratings.

Like, yeah, like this player is the greatest of all time because all these stats combined makes him fucking amazing. Like Michael Jordan's like a, you know, but if this guy's efficiency rating, even though he didn't block that many shots, you know? Yeah. But if this guy is like, out of the way game and his team's losing, then he does really poor.

It's like for what, you know, just weird, what always blows my mind is like, when you watch any sporting event and they've just got like all those like random stats. So you know that somebody's job to be like, so, you know, Jeff Gordon has only turned left for three quarters of his life. Like, what the fuck? Like, how'd you even know that?

Yeah, that's just their job. They're like, I'm running James dunks on three quarters of his opponents. If it's after one p.m. And math works a hundred percent of the time.

Wait, was it six percent of the time every time? Yeah. That doesn't make any sense. All right.

Another one shuffle deck of cards. I mean, shuffle correctly, like using the method. Yeah. Chances are that the exact order of those cards has never been seen before in the history of the universe.

What changes? That's like less than a one percent chain. Like, the odds, there's so many different ways it could come up. The odds of it being the same as ever been before is almost fine.

Ever been before? Yeah. Wow. Well, how many combinations of 52 are there?

I mean, I think it's 52 times. Oh, that's got to be a lot. 52 times 51 times 50. Because I think, yeah, it's the total number of combinations.

And I only know this because of doing access control of like a four digit pin. Because they're like five digit numbers is 62,000. Yeah. So is that crazy?

I imagine a five digits. And that's not including zero, by the way. Yeah. That's not including multiple zeros in front.

Yeah. Yeah. So you can imagine with 52, the number gets astronomical. Holy shit.

That's just fun facts, man. Fun math X. You're fun. All right.

Now we're going to dig deep into the maths. Yeah, dig deep into the maths. All right, man. So we got a whole list of choose from the stuff we're going to talk about today.

We want to go with first. What do you want to get into? You want to talk about Pi? Yeah, we can talk about Pi.

The more fun things to look at, I think, and probably a lot of people who are the irrational numbers. Yeah. Because they're so irrational. Everybody likes bitches who are crazy.

Irrational. That's a dumb. It's true though. I mean, yeah.

I love it. Let's be real. Some of the most fun people to be around. Oh yeah.

What makes something irrational? Unpredictable? I think so. Not now.

I'm not saying number wise. I'm saying life. In life. Just not normal.

But what's normal? Exactly. Yeah. But so my point is it is the same as numbers.

Right? Yeah. Because irrational means not following a pattern. Yeah.

A pattern would be called normal. The pattern that everybody else follows in life. It's a pattern read on. You know what a pattern is?

Yeah. Cultural and forms. Yeah. Well, you're not normal.

Yeah. It's true. So an irrational number is a repeating infinite number that has no pattern. All right.

Such as Pi. Three point one four, et cetera. Times a million. Couldn't even take the time to learn.

That makes sense. Yeah. Have you? Three point one four five six two three.

I'm just kidding. You can just make that up. Yeah. You were too.

And even like looked off to the side to like try not to repeat them. Well, and then it gets tricky because there's actually a six six. But you know, you wouldn't expect that. You hit that.

It sits over. Sorry. That's how the math works. So why is Pi significant?

Well, if you want to know the area or the circumference of a circle, you need Pi. Yeah. So that means that the ratio is the constant. That's the interesting thing about the number and why so you.

Well, that's where most irrational numbers come from or their, what's the word? Perfortunate. They're from ratios. Yeah.

So that's the point. Like it's the proportion. So the formula Pi R squared is the ratio of a circle diameter to its circumference. So you can figure out this conference or circle if you know the diameter or if you know, I'm sorry, if you know the radius because the radius is half the diameter, right?

Huh? Yeah. I think so. So the diameter is the distance across.

Yes. Right? Radius is from the center to the outside. Yeah.

Pi R squared. So Pi R squared. Yeah. Or Pi D.
