Matlock's Future Hangs in Balance | Los Angeles Chargers News

The Chargers are navigating tough roster moves as they head into the season, releasing Kyle Kennard and trading away preseason stars Avery Smith and TeRah Edwards for draft picks. With Alec Ingold stepping in as a proven fullback upgrade, Scott Matlock’s path to the 53-man roster looks slim — especially since he’s now on injured reserve with an undisclosed injury. While Matlock has already changed positions twice, his future remains uncertain: putting him on the practice squad would require cutting one of their existing tight ends, but keeping him around suggests the team still sees value. Meanwhile, Branson Taylor and Denzel Perryman are also sidelined but expected back soon, giving the Chargers more time to sort out Matlock’s role before final cuts.
