Matt Dorrien

from Club Sandwich Hosted by Jack Wells

This week’s guest is Matt Dorrien, a lonely-hearted, whiskey-sippin’, piano ticklin’ singer-songwriter based in Portland, OR. You may have seen his performance on KEXP or caught a show on tour with grammy nominee and label mate Courtney Marie Andrews. His songs are a time capsule. Is it 1973? Did Randy Newman and Harry Nilsson have a baby? Let’s drown our sorrows to one of my favorite musicians/ bartenders in town, Matt Dorrien. Welcome to the club.

The Late Set WRTI Jazz is a conversation — and that’s what The Late Set is all about. Originated by critic Nate Chinen and broadcaster Greg Bryant, the show now convenes Chinen and Josh Jackson twice a month for perceptive variations on a theme, and their related interview with a special guest. Just like a hang at the end of the gig, in the back of the club, it’s direct, unfiltered and illuminating, revealing the music and its culture in a deeper light.
