Determination, Deliberation, and Dragons Peter Markotsis & Isabella Perez On Determination, Deliberation, and Dragons, Izzy (she/her) and Peter (they/them) chat about creative writing while workshopping stories of our own. Our goal is to become better writers, and to share some of our insights along the way. Each episode, we'll discuss all the ingredients that go into writing a great story from setting and characters to, of course, the apocalypse! There's really not one "right" way to become a great writer, but hopefully this podcast will be a way for us (and maybe for you too!) to get a little better practicing and thinking about writing, and generally just having a good time together. So if you're someone who really likes creative writing, enjoys reading late into the night, or wants to hear our thoughts on the best dragon (spoiler alert: every dragon is the best), then join us on our writing quest! It follows on from The Warden, set some years later, with some of the same characters. Among other things it satirises the then raging antipathy in the Church of England between High Church and Evangelical adherents. Trollope began writing this book in 1855. He wrote constantly, and made himself a writing-desk so he could continue writing while travelling by train. "Pray know that when a man begins writing a book he never gives over," he wrote in a letter during this period. "The evil with which he is beset is as inveterate as drinking – as exciting as gambling." And, years later in his autobiography, he observed "In the writing of Barchester Towers I took great delight. The bishop and Mrs. Proudie were very real to me, as were also the troubles of the archdeacon and the loves of Mr. Slope." In my podcast, I take a story idea and write it while outlining the process out loud. In both cases, it is very similar to Bob Ross and The Joy of Painting, and that's obviously not an accident. For those who want to be writers, I hope this inspires you to immerse yourself in the writing process.
