Matthew 20:17-28 | The Rich Young Ruler Who Gave Up Everything

Our hearts need to know that we matter. That someone loves us, cares about us, and is eager to serve us and help meet our needs. In a non-Christian life, one of the ways we pursue this is through greatness and importance. The more people that know our name and the more weight our voice carries, the more we matter… Right? In a religious but not gospel-centered life, one of the ways we pursue this is through obedience to Jesus’ words in Matthew 20:17-28. We make sure we matter to God and others by setting aside our own identity and needs in order to serve. Jesus offers something so much more holistic and beautiful to anyone who will listen - a gospel-centered life that unashamedly meets the hearts need to matter with enjoying the love and presence of Jesus. We abide in the Good News that Jesus came not to be served, but to serve and give his life as a ransom (in love!) for many. By abiding in this Good News, we abide in the love of the Father, and overflow with humble love and service in the world.
