Matthew 5:1-12, known as the “Beatitudes” is the Bible reading for this week’s podcast. What Jesus teaches is often the opposite of what we think is right. For example, Jesus teaches “blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted”. We would say that mourning (being sad for the death of someone we love) is not a blessing. But Jesus says that it is a blessing because God will comfort us. It is a blessing to need God and to be comforted by God. It is dangerous to be a Christian in some countries. Is it difficult, hard or dangerous for you to be a Christian where you live?
