Matthew 7:7-11
from Podcast on The Way · host Dale Tompkins
Jesus knew that the high standards of the Sermon on the Mount would feel overwhelming, so He pointed His followers to the source of help: prayer. In Matthew 7:7-11, the commands to ask, seek, and knock are not one-time actions but ongoing habits of dependence on the Father. The promise of answered prayer is not about saying the right words or having enough faith. It rests entirely on the character of a good and generous Father. Just as no loving parent hands a hungry child a stone instead of bread, God gives good things to those who come to Him. The good things He promises are not primarily material blessings, but the grace, wisdom, strength, and presence of the Holy Spirit needed to live the life Jesus calls us to. If prayer feels like a last resort rather than a first response, it may reveal a deeper uncertainty about what kind of Father God truly is. He is the Father of mercies, and He is not waiting for perfect words. He is simply waiting for you to come.
